A Bit About Me
Dr. Pleuntje Jellema is an architect specializing in interdisciplinary research designs both in terms of theory and methods. Her research focus encompasses socio-spatial topics, healthcare, participatory processes, interior architecture, and everyday human behavior in relation to their built environment. In her work, Dr. Jellema is comfortable working independently or as part of larger teams, and she strives to make both large-scale and small-scale changes that contribute to significant societal impacts. One of Dr. Jellema's areas of expertise lies in the inclusive design of (semi-)public buildings and urban environments. She is particularly interested in exploring the relationship between well-being, sensory experiences of the built environment, and spatial organization. She investigates how the built environment and concurring lived experience of various kind of 'atmospheres' influence people's emotions, perceptions, and overall experiences of a place. She is passionate about engaging with diverse audiences and employs creative methods for science communication such as sketch-noting and photo-elicitation techniques to effectively communicate research findings and concepts.
